LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, in her statement on World Theatre Day, has remarked that theater serves as an academy for the art of acting, noting that world-renowned artists began their journeys from this very stage. Highlighting the historical and unique status of theater in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, she stated that Punjab’s theater holds a distinct identity and that our artists are playing a pivotal role in promoting national culture across borders and in Western countries. Azma Bokhari emphasized that the government’s mission to purge Punjab’s theater of obscenity and transform it back into “Family Theater” has achieved significant success. However, she added that to fully realize this goal, directors and producers must also play their responsible roles. She further stated that the Punjab government is taking effective and practical steps for the welfare of artists to ensure that those associated with this profession attain a better socio-economic standing.
