BEIRUT, 23 March 2026 – As the humanitarian crisis enters its fourth week in Lebanon, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, received its first shipment of life-saving medicines and supplies in Beirut today. The shipment will provide lifesaving maternal health supplies for thousands of pregnant women. In close coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, this critical delivery was made possible through the generous support of the European Union through the EU airbridge. Amidst escalating hostilities in Lebanon and airspace restrictions across the region, this shipment is critical for the continued provision of life-saving reproductive health services across the country. UNFPA plans to reach pregnant women with these life-saving medications, equipment for deliveries including c-sections as well as complicated deliveries. It will also include specialized supplies for the clinical management of rape, providing comprehensive care for survivors including for pediatric cases. “These kits can mean the difference between life and death for women fleeing violence and conflict. UNFPA is committed to ensuring that every woman and girl has access to rights-based, life-saving care, no matter the circumstances,” stated Anandita Philipose, UNFPA Representative in Lebanon. As the escalating crisis intensifies the risks faced by women and girls in Lebanon, UNFPA is committed to reach the most vulnerable including those cut off from lifesaving health and protection services and supplies. Despite significant challenges, UNFPA remains steadfast in its commitment to work alongside the government and humanitarian partners to deliver life-saving services for women and girls, upholding their right to health, safety, and dignity especially in times of such a crisis
