Stories from Sagaing: Rebuilding livelihoods after the Myanmar earthquake

Listening to communities Khin San Win’s experience shows that accountability is more than collecting feedback. It is about listening, responding and building trust so that communities can help shape decisions that affect their lives and recover with dignity. With support from IFRC and partners, MRCS has strengthened community engagement and accountability, giving people safe and accessible ways to ask questions, raise concerns and share feedback through hotlines, messaging apps, social media, help desks and suggestion boxes. Small steps, lasting recovery These stories show that livelihood recovery is more than helping people earn money. For these families, it is taking shape through small but meaningful actions: a generator that keeps a motorcycle wash running during power cuts, a pot of soup that adds income to a food stall, a flock of ducks that may produce eggs for sale, or a small shop that meets everyday household needs. People are using their own skills, ideas and decisions to begin rebuilding their incomes, and with continued support, their hope for the future.
