Naqvi: KP govt backtracked on commitments during talks

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had agreed during negotiations to sign a written agreement and submit an implementation plan within 72 hours to improve security in the province, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Sunday. In a statement on X, Naqvi said the KP delegation had also agreed to review the Police Act 2026, prevent terrorists from operating freely or establishing safe havens in the province, and unequivocally condemn all terrorist groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA). He said the KP government had also agreed to support the national policy on the repatriation of Afghan refugees, dismantle Afghan refugee camps, refrain from maintaining contact with the interim Afghan government and provide additional funds for counterterrorism efforts. According to Naqvi, the KP government backtracked on these commitments during the final stage of negotiations on Saturday night. He said the province was in a state of war and that security should not be politicised. The interior minister said the proposed agreement also covered increased cooperation with the armed forces and implementation of the National Action Plan.
