Key Highlights National average prices of key staple foods (wheat flour, edible oils, and pulses) remained elevated and are 14 percent above pre-Middle East conflict levels, as of 17 September, reflecting a combination of domestic market factors and higher fuel and import costs. Wheat flour prices declined marginally during the week ended on 17 September, indicating short-term market stability, however, prices remain 18 percent above pre-conflict levels. The cost of the basic food basket for a six-member household stood at PKR 17, 212 per month (USD 62), equivalent to PKR 4, 303 per week (USD 15. 5) nationwide, excluding lower cost items such as vegetables or spices. Domestic fuel prices remain a key transmission channel of regional market pressures. As of 25 September, petrol and HSD prices were 50 percent and 49 percent higher, respectively, than their pre-conflict levels, continuing to elevate transportation, food distribution, and other supply-chain costs.
