ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is set to hear a request on Tuesday (today) for Rs1. 73 per unit hike under the monthly fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for August 2026 for consumers across the country. Nepra will consider a Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) request at the September 29 hearing before deciding the amount of the August fuel charges adjustment to be passed on to all consumers including K-Electric consumers. The CPPA-G submitted the request to the power regulator, seeking an increase of about Rs1. 73 per unit on the basis of electricity generation and fuel costs recorded during August. The CPPA-G data, electricity supplied to distribution companies during August totalled 14. 464 billion units at an average cost of Rs8. 82 per unit. The cost of electricity generated from high-speed diesel during the month stood at around Rs54 per unit, while furnace oil-based generation cost Rs45. 25 per unit and electricity generated through imported LNG cost Rs45. 93 per unit. The proposed increase comes after consumers were charged an additional Rs2. 06 per unit under the FCA for July. Nepra issued its decision on the July adjustment earlier this month. The July adjustment was reflected in consumers’ September bills. Electricity consumers are also bearing an additional 52 paise per unit under the quarterly tariff adjustment approved for the second quarter of 2026.
