Tarar: PTI-led KP govt has failed to act against terrorism

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has regretted that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has neither taken practical steps against terrorism nor has the intention to do so. Addressing a news conference along with Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry in Islamabad on Monday, he alleged that the provincial government was facilitating terrorism because it reaped political and financial gains from it, despite the loss of numerous innocent lives. “The PTI leadership in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the B team of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ” he said. He said the provincial government has provided facilitation to terrorists for its political and financial interests. Tarar said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has deliberately refrained from bringing non-customs-paid vehicles in the province under the legal framework. He said these non-customs-paid vehicles are used in terrorist activities. The information minister also demanded that the provincial government provide details of how the resources meant for counter-terrorism efforts were utilised in the province. “You have not installed Safe City cameras despite taking huge funds, ” he said. Tarar expressed the federal government’s firm resolve to eliminate the scourge of terrorism. “The PTI has been in power in the province for more than twelve and a half years, yet the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa still travel to other provinces for medical treatment, ” he said, criticising the performance of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. In his remarks, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry highlighted the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist incidents in Pakistan. He regretted that PTI does not condemn Afghanistan over the issue. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has neither provided adequate resources to the police nor empowered them to deal with the menace of terrorism. He lamented that under the KP Police Act, 2026, an attempt has been made to further curtail the powers of the police.
