Over 45 crimes reported in federal capital: Criminal gangs continue their looting spree despite tight security

ISLAMABAD: Despite tight security arrangements in the federal capital, criminal gangs continued their looting spree, carrying out more than 45 crimes and depriving citizens of their valuable belongings. According to data gathered by Business Recorder, more than 45 incidents, including theft, robbery, snatching of cash and mobile phones, car theft, and murder, were registered at various police stations during the last week. As per the data, the 45 reported incidents included 24 auto theft and carjacking cases, nine street crime incidents involving the snatching of mobile phones and cash at gunpoint, and 11 cases of theft and robbery. Of the 24 vehicles stolen or snatched during the last week, 23 were motorbikes, and one was a car. During the past week, criminal activity increased, particularly within the jurisdictions of the Karachi Company, Shalimar, Sabzi Mandi, Shams Colony, and Khanna police stations. The most shocking incident during the week was the kidnapping of a three-year-old girl, who was later found murdered in a wooded area in the jurisdiction of Noon Police Station. Following her disappearance, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of her mother. According to the FIR, the girl was playing in the street when she disappeared. Following registration of the case, the police formed a team and took a suspect into custody. During interrogation, the man confessed to killing the girl and dumping her body in a wooded area about one-and-a-half kilometres from the police station. The police then took the suspect to the location and recovered the girl’s body. The suspect had strangled the girl with a waistband. During the last week, the Karachi Company Police Station registered five cases of auto theft and one case of robbery. The Shalimar police station registered three cases of robbery, while the Sabzi Mandi police station registered one case each of robbery, street crime, and auto theft. Furthermore, the Shams Colony Police Station registered one case of street crime and two cases of auto theft, while the Ramana police station registered one case of street crime and two cases of robbery.
