Sahibzada Farhan likely to lead Pakistan against Sri Lanka

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering resting national team vice-captain Salman Ali Agha for the T20I series against Sri Lanka, with opening batter Sahibzada Farhan likely to be handed the captaincy for the three-match series, sources said. Farhan has already been appointed captain of Pakistan’s squad for the Asian Games, prompting the PCB selection committee and team management to consider retaining him as captain for the Sri Lanka series as well, according to the sources. Head coach Mike Hesson is also in favour of giving Farhan a leadership role in the Sri Lanka series to further assess his captaincy skills, the sources said. PCB sources said the broader aim of these experiments was to develop a strong pool of young and talented players ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup, helping facilitate the formation of the national side in the future. The three-match T20I series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13. Cricket experts believe resting senior players and giving opportunities to newcomers will help strengthen Pakistan’s bench strength, while fans are hopeful of seeing the young side perform under a new captain.
