Karachi police bust drug network, seize Rs250m worth of drugs

Karachi police have busted an organised drug network allegedly supplying narcotics from Afghanistan and arrested two suspects, recovering 19 kilogrammes of high-quality drugs worth around Rs250 million. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Friday, DIG East Farrukh Lanjar said the interprovincial network was operated by several members of the same family in Lahore and Karachi. He identified a woman, Mehwish, as the alleged main ringleader of the network, saying she operated the entire setup from Lahore. According to the police officer, the group procured drugs directly from Afghanistan and supplied them across the country. Lanjar said Mehwish’s sister-in-law, Hira, handled the network’s operations in Karachi. Hira’s husband, Pervez, her son and brother-in-law were also allegedly involved in the network. He said police arrested a woman and a man during raids carried out to dismantle the gang and recovered 19kg of high-quality drugs from their possession. The seized narcotics were worth approximately Rs250 million, according to the DIG. Police said further investigation of the arrested suspects was underway to trace Mehwish, who is in Lahore, and other members of the network who remain at large.
