ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday said Pakistan’s inaugural Sustainable Panda Bond has earned international recognition at the 2026 Asia-Pacific Climate Bonds Awards, receiving the Pioneer Sustainable Sovereign Panda Bond Issuer Award. The minister, while expressing gratitude to the Climate Bonds Initiative, Government of China, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), investors, advisers, underwriters and other partners, said the recognition reflected more than a successful financial transaction. He said the award demonstrated Pakistan’s growing access to new pools of global capital, deeper international partnerships and continued progress towards diversified, market-based and sustainable financing. Senator Aurangzeb said Pakistan was moving forward with greater stability, credibility and confidence, opening new markets and building stronger foundations for sustainable growth. He said the three-year bond, carrying a competitive 2. 5 percent coupon, attracted investor demand of more than five times the issue size, helping Pakistan access a new pool of institutional capital, diversify its sovereign financing sources and strengthen financial ties with China. The transaction was delivered through close collaboration among the Government of Pakistan, AIIB, ADB, Chinese authorities, financial advisers, underwriters and other market participants. The recognition marks another milestone in Pakistan’s growing access to international capital markets, broadening its investor base, diversifying financing sources and mobilising capital for sustainable development.
