NDMA asked to provide relief to people affected by rains

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to use all available resources to provide relief to people affected by heavy monsoon rains. Talking to NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, the PM directed the relevant departments to ensure smooth traffic flow on roads and bridges during the rains and facilitate the delivery of relief supplies to affected areas. The NDMA chairman briefed the PM on preparations to deal with heavy rainfall and the possibility of flooding during the ongoing monsoon season. Sharif also directed the NDMA to maintain effective coordination with provincial authorities and provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs) to ensure a coordinated response to any emergency. According to the briefing, advance preparations had enabled relevant institutions to monitor the monsoon situation more effectively and take timely measures. The meeting was informed that all relevant agencies across the country were prepared to undertake rescue and relief operations in the event of any weather-related emergency. Malik also briefed the PM on the expected trend of the monsoon season and preparedness measures being taken by the provinces and other relevant institutions. Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi called on PM Sharif and discussed the province’s political situation, law and order, and other matters of mutual interest. The PM reiterated that the federal government would continue working for the development of KP and the welfare of its people. The meeting stressed the need for further efforts to strengthen coordination between the federation and the province and address public issues. Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam and PM’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah also attended the meeting. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
