Karachi may receive rain today as temperature nears 40°C

Karachi may receive light rain today, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting temperatures of up to 40°C as hot and humid weather continues across the city. The Met Office said the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 38°C and 40°C over the next 24 hours, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27. 5°C. Humidity stood at 75%, adding to the muggy conditions, while winds remained calm. A weather analyst said thunderstorm clouds could develop over Karachi’s suburban areas after noon, bringing gusty winds and rain to several parts of the city. The M-9, DHA, Gadap and Dumba Goth areas could experience rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. Similar conditions are possible in Scheme 33, Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Port Qasim and Steel Town. Other parts of Karachi have a 45% to 60% chance of light to moderate rain, according to the analyst. However, severe rainfall is not currently expected, while intense heat could trigger localised cloud formation. Earlier, the PMD said a monsoon low that formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast had moved over South Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas. The weather system is expected to move westward and bring rain and thunderstorms to several parts of Sindh until September 16. The Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also issued an advisory, urging relevant authorities to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant during the expected weather spell.
