Karachi is expected to receive light rain today (Monday), as the city remains in the grip of hot and humid weather. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the temperature is expected to remain between 38°C and 40°C over the next 24 hours. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 27. 5°C, while humidity stood at 75%, adding to the muggy conditions. Winds remained calm. A weather expert said the heat index could reach 42°C to 48°C in different parts of Karachi Thunderstorm clouds are likely to develop in the city’s outskirts after noon, with gusty winds and rain accompanied by thunderstorms possible along the M-9 motorway, DHA, Gadap and Dumba Goth, the expert said. He said Scheme 33, Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Port Qasim and Steel Town could also receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. There is a 45% to 60% chance of light to moderate rain in other parts of the city, he added. The weather expert said the monsoon system weakens over southern Pakistan in September, but intense heat can trigger localised cloud formation. He said residents should not expect heavy rainfall in Karachi for now.
