Karachi is likely to receive intermittent thunderstorms and light rain on Monday and Tuesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast on Sunday, as a monsoon system continues to move west-northwestward. According to the PMD, the monsoon low, which was earlier over South Chhattisgarh, is now located over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. Under its influence, dust-thunderstorm rain with moderate to isolated heavy falls is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Mohammad Khan from Sunday to Tuesday, with occasional gaps. Light to moderate dust-thunderstorm rain is likely in Sanghar, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Matiari and Jamshoro on Monday and Tuesday. Separately, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an advisory over the possibility of rain in various parts of Sindh, while Sindh Chief Minister’s Adviser on Rehabilitation GiyanChand Essarani directed the PDMA and Sindh Emergency Rescue Service 1122 to remain on high alert. The Sindh Information Department said this in a press release, while mentioning the forecast of intermittent rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in various districts of the province from Sept 13 to 16. Essarani directed deputy commissioners, district disaster management authorities and relevant departments to keep personnel and machinery ready to respond to any emergency. He also ordered continuous monitoring of low-lying areas, rainwater drains and other vulnerable locations, with dewatering equipment and other resources kept operational. “Protection of the lives and property of citizens is the government’s top priority, ” the adviser said, urging the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period and take necessary precautionary measures.
