PML-N leader Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed shot dead near Muridke

Senior PML-N leader and former Muridke municipal corporation chairman Sheikh Shabbir Ahmed was killed in a targeted attack on GT Road near Muridke, police said on Saturday. According to police, Sheikh Shabbir was travelling in his car from his flour mill towards his residence in Lahore when armed assailants opened fire on his vehicle near Muridke. The attackers, who were travelling in a car, fled the scene after firing at the vehicle, police said. Sheikh Shabbir sustained critical injuries in the attack and later succumbed to his wounds. His body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Muridke for a post-mortem examination. Police said investigations were underway and CCTV footage was being reviewed to identify and trace the attackers. Police initially suspected that the attack may have stemmed from an old enmity and said efforts were underway to arrest those responsible.
