The government has further increased the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), marking the fourth consecutive hike in petroleum prices. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), the price of petrol has been increased by Rs3. 05 per litre, while HSD has gone up by Rs5. 37 per litre. The new petrol price has been fixed at Rs370. 80 per litre, up from Rs367. 75, while the price of HSD has risen from Rs392. 67 to Rs398. 04 per litre. The new prices will take effect from midnight on Friday, September 11, 2026, the notification said. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices under the government’s petroleum pricing mechanism, taking into account international oil prices and other cost factors. The latest increase comes after three successive hikes earlier this week. On Wednesday, petrol and diesel prices were increased by Rs3. 40 and Rs6. 72 per litre, respectively. On Tuesday, petrol rose from Rs358. 77 to Rs364. 35 per litre, while diesel increased from Rs381. 77 to Rs385. 95 per litre. On Monday, petrol was increased by Rs12. 90 per litre, while HSD went up by Rs3. 72. Meanwhile, global oil prices jumped more than 5% on Thursday, with both major benchmarks trading above $100 a barrel. The surge came as attacks on shipping linked to the Iran war raised concerns about further disruptions to already tight supplies. Brent crude futures rose $5. 39, or 5. 33%, to $106. 60 a barrel by 11: 49am ET (1549 GMT), while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained $5. 16, or 5. 37%, to $101. 21 a barrel. With Thursday’s increase, petrol has become Rs24. 93 per litre more expensive over the last four days, while the price of HSD has risen by Rs19. 99 per litre during the same period.
