PM Shehbaz, Gates Foundation delegation discuss polio eradication, key reforms

A delegation of the Gates Foundation called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, where the two sides discussed cooperation in key development sectors, including polio eradication, health, nutrition and financial inclusion. The delegation included Gates Foundation representatives Kalpana Kochhar and Anita Zaidi. The prime minister appreciated the Gates Foundation’s continued support and partnership with Pakistan in addressing its development challenges. Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the shared goal of complete polio eradication, saying the national polio eradication programme enjoyed patronage at the highest level. He said the Gates Foundation had played a valuable role in polio eradication, health, nutrition, financial inclusion and the welfare of vulnerable segments of society. The prime minister said key reform priorities, including digital payments, food security, maternal and newborn health, poverty reduction and climate change, were part of the government’s governance reforms agenda. He added that promoting a cashless economy was a fundamental part of the government’s transformation agenda.
