Already-compliant taxpayers: FBR chief urges FPCCI leaders to help ease burden

KARACHI: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Rashid Mahmood Langrial has urged the FPCCI leaders to actively campaign for the retailers’ scheme to help ease the burden currently carried by already-compliant taxpayers. This was stated during a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi on Wednesday, part of a monthly visit series aimed at strengthening ties between the tax authority and the business community. The FPCCI delegation was led by Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon while Langrial was accompanied by Member Inland Revenue (Operations), Member Customs (Operations) and other senior FBR officials. The meeting served as a follow-up session to review progress on issues raised in an earlier engagement. FPCCI representatives credited the monthly visits with improving communication between the tax body and trade organizations, and said most concerns flagged in the previous meeting had since been resolved through the work of the Members for Operations and their teams. Delegates pressed for continued follow-up on matters still outstanding and introduced fresh concerns, including classification disputes and unresolved income tax refunds dating back several years. FBR officials pledged to take up both pending and newly raised issues on a priority basis, in consultation with chamber representatives and relevant FBR wings. Chairman Langrial reaffirmed the tax authority’s commitment to a “facilitative and responsive” relationship with the business community, saying regular dialogue with trade bodies would continue in order to address taxpayer concerns promptly and build trust between the administration and taxpayers.
