Lanjar asks LEAs to intensify action against criminals

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has directed law enforcing agencies that operations against criminal elements be further intensified to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property. He was chairing a meeting on law and order at the Central Police Office, where a detailed review was conducted of the overall law and order situation across the province, police action against criminal elements, street crime, prevention of robbery and snatching, and security measures. He stressed that an effective and result-oriented strategy for curbing street crime, robbery and snatching must be strictly implemented. Lanjar directed that the scope of intelligence-based and targeted operations against street criminals and elements involved in robbery and snatching be further expanded. He ordered the identification of crime hotspots and directed that additional personnel, effective patrolling, picketing and special surveillance arrangements be deployed in such areas. He also directed that police patrolling and surveillance be further strengthened along major highways, entry and exit points, commercial centres, residential areas and sensitive locations. He further ordered an expansion of snap-checking and picketing in different areas to prevent street crime, robbery and snatching. He directed that the intelligence and reconnaissance mechanisms be further activated to monitor the movement of criminal elements, identify possible escape routes and trace their facilitators. He stressed that effective action must be taken not only against gangs involved in robbery and snatching but also against their facilitators and supporting networks. Lanjar said that a prompt police response to criminal incidents and immediate action on citizens’ complaints must be ensured at all costs. He stressed that, alongside crime prevention, the process of effective investigation, evidence-based action and securing convictions of accused persons in accordance with the law should also be further improved. He directed that coordination and communication between police forces of different districts be further strengthened, saying that the objective was to ensure that criminal elements could be effectively brought within the ambit of the law. He directed that information regarding suspicious vehicles, wanted suspects and criminal gangs be immediately shared with the relevant districts. He further ordered the strengthening of the inter-district coordination mechanism to ensure effective monitoring of the movement of criminal elements. He made it clear that field policing, patrolling, surveillance and intelligence mechanisms were being further strengthened to maintain law and order and protect the lives and property of citizens across the province. IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho briefed the meeting and said that operations against street crime, robbery and snatching were being further strengthened, while a zero-tolerance policy against criminal elements continued to be implemented. He said that police officers were identifying crime hotspots within their respective jurisdictions and ensuring effective patrolling and targeted operations.
