Government raises petrol and diesel prices again

The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs5. 58 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4. 18 per litre, effective from Wednesday, September 9. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division on Tuesday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the government’s pricing mechanism. The price of petrol has been increased from Rs358. 77 to Rs364. 35 per litre, while diesel has risen from Rs381. 77 to Rs385. 95 per litre. The latest revision comes a day after the government sharply increased petrol prices by Rs12. 90 per litre and HSD by Rs3. 72 per litre. On Monday, petrol was raised from Rs345. 87 to Rs358. 77 per litre, while diesel increased from Rs378. 05 to Rs381. 77 per litre. The government has made frequent adjustments to fuel prices in recent days amid fluctuations in international oil prices and other cost factors. The latest hike further reverses the petrol price reduction announced last Friday, when petrol was cut by Rs3. 13 per litre to Rs345. 87, while HSD was increased by Rs3. 74 per litre to Rs378. 05. The new prices will remain in effect until Wednesday, in line with the government’s ongoing practice of adjusting fuel prices based on international oil markets and other cost factors.
