Pakistan has dispatched 100 tonnes of humanitarian assistance to flood-hit Nepal to support relief efforts following devastating floods and landslides, the Foreign Office said on Sunday. The relief consignment was sent on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif through a chartered flight from Islamabad to Kathmandu. Coordinated by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the assistance comprises tents, blankets, mats, hygiene kits and medicines for affected communities. A send-off ceremony was held at Islamabad International Airport, attended by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik. The ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan, along with senior officials from the Foreign Office, NDMA and humanitarian organisations, also attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tariq expressed solidarity with the people of Nepal on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan. “Pakistan stands with Nepal and its flood-affected people during this difficult time, ” he said. The minister said the timely dispatch of the relief consignment reflected Pakistan’s commitment to extending humanitarian assistance to countries facing natural disasters. The Foreign Office said the assistance reflected Pakistan’s solidarity with the government and people of Nepal. The NDMA said the relief goods had been dispatched through its coordinated efforts to provide timely support to the affected population.
