Digital model for pesticide regulation unveiled

ISLAMABAD: The National Agri-Trade and Food Safety Authority (NAFSA) has unveiled plans for a modern, transparent and digitally enabled regulatory framework for pesticides and agro-chemicals. According to a statement, the NAFSA Act, 2026, will replace the existing regulatory framework under the Agricultural Pesticides Ordinance, 1971, and Agricultural Pesticides Rules, 1973. The new system will cover pesticide registration, imports and exports, manufacturing and formulation, dealer licensing, packaging and labelling, storage and safety, laboratory testing, inspections and complaint resolution. The authority said the framework would also introduce science-based risk assessment. Published in Dawn, September 6th, 2026
