ISLAMABAD: The Power Division said on Saturday that 11, 695 pending net metering applications have been resolved, while direct communication with affected consumers has formally commenced. In an official statement, the Power Division said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that every eligible consumer received their due rights in accordance with applicable rules and regulations without having to rely on any third party, agent or intermediary for processing their applications. READ ALSO: Net metering applications: PD issues instructions to resolve backlog During the transition from the net metering to the net billing system, a total of 16, 654 applications were pending. On the directives of Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, a comprehensive verification and validation process was launched to resolve the cases on a priority basis. Through coordinated efforts of the Power Division and relevant institutions, 11, 695 applications have so far been cleared, verified and found compliant with applicable rules and regulations. The Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) has initiated direct contact with the concerned consumers to provide timely and reliable information regarding verification of their applications and subsequent steps. PITC is contacting consumers through SMS, WhatsApp and other digital channels. Consumers can also check the status of their applications online through the designated verification portal. Consumers have been explicitly advised that no fee or payment is required to be made to any individual for expediting or further processing of their applications. The Power Division said the direct communication mechanism had been introduced to protect consumers from unnecessary interference and prevent individuals or agents from exploiting them on the pretext of processing or resolving their applications. The government is seeking to ensure that legitimate consumer cases are resolved directly and transparently, without the involvement of unauthorised intermediaries. Meanwhile, the verification and validation process for the remaining 4, 959 applications is underway. Each application is being examined against relevant records, NEPRA clarifications, rules and guidelines. The objective is to ensure that every genuine consumer receives their entitlement without unnecessary delay while preventing illegal, fraudulent or misinformation-based applications from exploiting the system. The government reiterated its support for the promotion of solar and renewable energy, saying solarisation remained a critical pillar of the country’s energy future. The Power Division said the government’s policy was not aimed at creating hurdles for the solar sector but at fostering its growth while protecting consumer rights and ensuring a transparent and Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said the government’s top priority was to resolve legitimate public grievances without unnecessary delays or interference. He directed the relevant organisations to expedite scrutiny of the remaining pending applications and ensure that every consumer was provided with clear and transparent updates regarding the status of their case.
