Sharjeel demands federal govt clarify Asif’s remarks

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Saturday criticised remarks by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif concerning Sindh and the Pakistan People’s Party, calling on the federal government to clarify whether they reflected official policy or the minister’s personal views. Memon, who also holds Information, Transport and Mass Transit portfolios, said statements by federal ministers should not be used to create political confrontation with Sindh. He urged Asif to review Pakistan’s history, Constitution and parliamentary record before making comments about the province and the PPP. “The PPP’s position is clear, principled and constitutional. There is no ambiguity or double standard in it, ” Memon said. He pointed to resolutions passed by the Punjab Assembly in favour of a separate Seraiki province. Whereas, he continued, the Sindh Assembly had on eight occasions passed resolutions opposing the creation of additional provinces from Sindh. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government should address the concerns of its political allies without making Sindh the target of political controversy. Copyright Business Recorder, 2026
