KARACHI: Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday reviewed plans to expand public transport services in the province, including the Peoples Bus Service, electric taxis, double-decker buses and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects. Chaired by Sharjeel Memon – holding portfolios of Information, Transport and Mass Transit – was attended by Sindh Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Trans Karachi’s CEO Zubair Channa, Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s Managing Director Behzad Memon and other officials. Officials briefed the meeting on the ongoing operation of the People’s Bus Service and plans to extend the service to other cities. The service on the Qambar-Shahdadkot to Larkana route is expected to begin soon, with buses already having reached Larkana. The meeting was also informed that arrangements for the arrival and operation of double-decker buses were being finalised. Memon directed officials to complete arrangements to launch bus services on new routes without delay. The expansion aimed to provide better transport facilities to the public. The meeting also discussed the operational model for an electric taxi service and preparations for its launch. The Minister said the provincial government would distribute pink electric scooters among women in Mirpurkhas on September 5, 2026. The initiative would empower women and improve their access to essential activities. He also directed officials to accelerate work on BRT projects and ensure coordination among relevant institutions to avoid unnecessary delays. “The Sindh government is taking practical steps to develop a modern, safe and environment-friendly public transport system in the province, ” Memon said. He said expansion of the People’s Bus Service to different cities, promotion of electric transport and development of major BRT projects were part of the government’s broader transport policy.
